Blockchain-Powered Data Validation Platform Enhances Cross-Boundary Academic Credential Verification

WeBank Technology Services and Hong Kong's Certizen Technology have launched a blockchain-based platform to help Hong Kong Polytechnic University verify the academic records of mainland Chinese applicants.

Mainland applications to Hong Kong universities have grown quickly, leaving admissions offices manually checking tens of thousands of diplomas, degree certificates, and transcripts every year — a slow, error-prone process.

Cross-border verification has also been complicated by strict rules on transferring sensitive personal data and gaps in shared digital infrastructure between the mainland and Hong Kong. The new platform is designed to verify credentials securely while keeping both sides' data-compliance requirements intact.
